What is the Baroque?

The Baroque is an artistic period that affecting all arts (sculpture, painting, architecture, literature, dance, theatre, and music) remarks tension, motion, contrast, complexity, variety and exuberance.

The style took place between the 17th and part of the 18th century.

It began around 1600 in Rome and Italy, and spread to most of Europe.

Most of the Baroque art we will find is religious because it was supported by the Catholic Church.

Caravaggio
Peter Paul Rubens
Rembrandt
Diego Velasquez
Antonio Vivaldi, Frideric Handel and Sebastian Bach, baroque musicians.

What happened before, during and after Baroque?

As we know, the Renaissance took place between the 15th and the 16th century but styles started changing and the Baroque borned.

But what happened between the 17th and the 18th centuries?

Isaac Newton establish a new method for scientific research and discovered the light dispersion, where a prism decomposes white light into the colours of the spectrum.

Diego Velasquez

Diego Velasquez was a Spanish painter.

He was born in 1599 and died on 1660.

He was one of the most important painters of the Spanish Golden Age with famous paintings like:

Rembrandt

Rembradt was a Duch (Netherlands) painter.

He was born in 1606 and died on 1669.

He is considered one of the best baroque artists ever with works like:

Caravaggio

Caravaggio was an Italian painter.

He lived between 1571 and 1610.

He was one the firsts baroque artists. The Church, his main client wasn't very happy with the models he used for the paintings, instead of ideal bodies and pretty women, he painted poor and ugly people.
